"Rokdim" was established for the purpose of providing dance instructors and dancers all the necessary tools to learn a dance properly. The site created a data base of information about the instructors in Israel and abroad, listing dance sessions in Israel and around the world. It makes available information about the songs and stories related to the dances. In short, at "Rokdim" one can get information about the wonderful cultural field known as, "Israeli Folk Dance Culture."

We have established agreements with Acum and record companies in order to sell songs arranged especially for the dances (and in this format only), legally, respecting the copyright laws by providing payment for our use of the music.

We have agreements with chorographers of the dances, recognizing their rights and the royalties that they deserve for creating the dances. We have many agreements with singers, permitting us the use of the poems/lyrics as arranged for the folk dances.

In the eighties, we produced instruction manuals for all the dances steps. These guides are now free to view on this page.  In the nineties, we started film and video production.  We now have about 200 DVD items containing almost 3,000 instructional dance clips, each demonstrated by the best instructors. All DVD's come with compatible music CD's.

In 1988, we established the "Rokdim Club". Members receive discounts of up to 50% toward purchase of our products and the "Rokdim Magazine" which contains comprehensive articles related to folk dance in particular and on all aspects of Israeli folk dance culture.

The site is displayed in Hebrew and English. Each may be accessed by a click on the appropriate flag in the top right of the screen. English Hebrew

Yaron

Israeli Folk Dance has been a part of Yaron Meishar's life since the time of his youth in Kibbutz Shamir, in the Upper Galilee, where he danced in the "Hashomer Hatza'ir" youth movement; his involvement continued through his army service as a Captain in the Airlifted Settlers' Corp., eventually leading him to dance and teach at youth camps in France and the USA. And IFD continues to be a major influence on him today as an IFD instructor in Israel. His training as a physical fitness teacher helped him to develop his well-known instructional terminology and earned him praise for his thoroughness from not only dancers, but of fellow instructors and the media. He is proud to say that in his more than 20 years of dance instructing, Yaron Meishar has raised many generations of  avid dancers.

Yaron's understanding of the dancers' needs, along with his years of creativity in developing and imparting his own knowledge of Israeli Folk Dance, made him aware of a need to turn his hobby into a business, a business to help others who share his passion for IFD. Yaron Meishar has been operating "Rokdim"* since 1982. Under his guidance, it has become a world center for imparting knowledge and materials concerning IFD.  It is the only place where dancers and instructors can obtain everything necessary to learn and teach Israeli and International Folk Dance.

* Rokdim pays copyright royalties to Acum (the composers and lyricists), to choreographers (through the Eirgun), and to record companies according to law.
